ABOUT ME
My name is Maria Plata and I am on a journey of self discovery. I am sharing what I am learning with others and finding ways to use my skills to help. In 2018 I left my teaching career and began teaching my own Spanish classes as Plata Learning And Teaching Academy. I loved using my creativity to teach Spanish to kids through this platform and enjoyed creating engaging materials. After taking time off in 2020 for maternity leave and experiencing the global pandemic with my two kids at home, I've had to re-evaluate what I want this platform to look like in the future. I discovered how much creativity actually means to me and hope to use that as a guide for the year 2021.

I married my high school sweetheart in 2012, we have a 6 year old son, a one year old son (in Feb. of 2021) and had to say goodbye to our fur baby Sam of 12+ years recently. I love talking with people, writing, painting, being outside under the stars and just learning as much as I can about everything.

I am passionate about three major parts of who I am: being highly sensitive, a teacher/mom and a "creator". My goal is to bring value to your life in whatever form that may be! I look forward to learning and evolving through this process, and of course, getting to know more people!

SON- material tester
I create a lot of my teaching materials with my son in mind. My goal is for him to be truly bilingual, so a lot of the activities and games I create I have developed with his feedback. He also loves to create videos with me!
DOG- emotional support
We have the most incredible dog who is my daily source of inspiration and support. He goes on walks with me while I gather my thoughts or get some much needed fresh air. He also is there when the going gets tough to make it all better! (Sam passed away in February of 2021, read more here)
HUSBAND- idea processor
We all need that one person that will listen and encourage our ideas no matter how silly they are. This is definitely my husband. He tries to proofread all of my posts because some times my mind works too fast!
SON- material tester in training
Having a baby makes learning extra fun and special! Baby Dante is helping us reconnect with the language in a fun and simple way! We use his natural development to help guide the creation of new material. He also loves to sleep in the ergo while we record videos!
